CONSUL GENERAL FERHAT ALKAN'S LETTER TO THE EDITOR AT THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS

Houston Başkonsolosluğu 29.12.2016

Consul General Ferhat Alkan's Letter to the Editor has been published at The Dallas Morning News on December 27th, 2016 regarding the terror attack on the Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov.

"Turkey Condemns Assassination

Re: "Russian Envoy Slain," Dec. 20 1A news story.

We should reiterate that Turkey condemns the heinous terror attack on the Russian ambassador to Ankara, Andrei Karlov. As President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and President Vladimir Putin of Russia agreed, this despicable act of terror is now being comprehensively investigated by a joint Turkish-Russian team. We are confident that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

Karlov was a distinguished diplomat who worked tirelessly to foster Turkish-Russian relations in difficult times. Both presidents shared their commitments to honor his memory and not allow this cowardly attack to overshadow Turkish-Russian ties. Thanks to the recent rapprochement between the two countries and the Turkish-Russian brokered cease-fire in Aleppo, 40,000 Syrians were evacuated safely from the besieged city.

The assassination of Ambassador Karlov has displayed the most barbarous face of terrorism. Turkey will resolutely continue fighting against all forms of terrorism, together with Russia and all other partners. Turkey's determination is beyond discussion. Just last week, the Turkish Army lost 16 heroes in al-Bab, Syria, fighting ISIS terrorists during Operation Euphrates Shield. This 4-month-old operation so far has cleared more than 750 square miles and liberated 225 towns from ISIS, giving hope to many in Syria and beyond.
